Post Turkey-pocalypse

Phew, well, we all survived Thanksgiving! And hopefully, you brave souls that ventured out for Black Friday came back alive with deals in hand. I actually haven’t really picked up anything besides a discounted subscription at SquareHue!! Try code FreeBox and see if it still works for you šŸ™‚

I had a great day filled with family, friends, and yummy food (though oddly, no turkey! I went for ham). My dad and I cooked up the roasted parsnips I blogged about last month and some brussel sproutsĀ and then we all headed out to their best friends’ place for the night. We go there every year and the group varies from 20-30 people. It was gorgeous out yesterday, so we spent the whole time outside and got a fire going once the sun went down. It was nice to be around people I loved and reminded me that to be grateful for what I do have.

The outfit:

Please excuse my lipstick marks on the mirror. i’ve found it to be the most effective way to blot šŸ˜›

  • Golden Tote ‘Fate’ sweater
  • H&M army green long sleeve shirt
  • Express 5 Pointe pants
  • Booties from DSW
  • Project DIY necklace (a giveaway I won courtesy of Stephanie over at Tickled Pink in the Rain!)

The outfit was quite the success. Nice and cozy, plus I got kudos for my DIY necklace. I also did some suhweet eye makeup with my Starlooks palette from the latest Starbox but forgot to take a picture! I used the red & gold for a nice fall look that went with the sweater quite nicely. The pants are some of my fave, stretchy enough to handle the Tday feast, but still form fitting. I have them in like 3 other colors too!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday!! Look for reviews in the next few days for the FFF VIP Box, my Project DIY box, and Sephora’s Favorites Superstar set, not to mention TONS of nail polish swatches and reviews (including Zoya and Deborah Lippman) šŸ™‚

Studio Gear Holiday Smokey Eye Palette

The lovely folks over at Studio GearĀ sent over their new Holiday Smokey Eye Palette for my to review! The palette retails for $40, but is currently on sale for only $25!! Keep reading to receive an additional discount just for you, my lovely readers šŸ™‚

Adorable packaging & smokey eye guide for makeup newbies to follow along.

In Studio Gear’s own words “Be radiant for any occasion with this sultry, shimmery palette of dramatic shades – perfect for creating a classic smokey eye look with a hint of unexpected golden glimmer…With pure color, pigment rich formulations, you’ll be sure to smolder all night.”Ā The palette itself is small, .42 oz and definitely travel friendly! It has 4 shadows and 1 blush, all which compliment each other well. I like the inclusion of a shimmery gold, it’s nice and will definitely be used with other looks.

I’ve always been interested in Studio Gear makeup. I see them at Ulta, but never know where to start. This palette is a good jumping off point for me. The four shades + blush are as follows *first swatch done without primer, second swatch with Urban Decay Shadow Primer Potion*

Frost – white shimmer with a well, frost, finish. Good for a highlighter. A bit chalky.
Platinum– a lovely soft silver. I think it looks better with primer, but also pretty nice on its own.
Image

Glimmer – a nice gold that really wows with the help of a primer.
Coal – Primer wasn’t totally necessary to get this color true to pan, but it definitely helped even it out.
Image

Snowy glow – a nice shimmery pink/coral blush. Use a light hand! Blends beautifully though. It’s picking up more red on my phone, but rest assured, it’s not so clown like in real life :P.
Image
Swatches indoor, no flash.
Image
Swatches outside, no flash, a bit overcast (weird Phoenix winter!)

I think the palette itself is nice. It’s not something that screams unique, but I think it’d make a nice gift for someone building up their collections. The colors themselves can work for a variety of skin tones, I’d love to see how the blush looks on someone with a darker complexion. The shades also need to build up a little, which is actually nice as you can go for a lighter smoky eye if full on seems a bit intimidating. Keep in mind, these colors are shimmery, not matte! I’m excited to play around with this a bit for holiday parties coming up.

Now where you can you buy it?? You can get it direct from Studio Gear or at Ulta. Visit http://studiogearcosmetics.com/shop/eye-make-up/holiday-smokey-eye-palette/ to buy it from them! I checked andĀ Studio Gear is having some great Black Friday deals as well, I’m looking at a few of the sets or maybe a blush or two. They’re also doing Cyber Monday with 30% off complexion products! And because Studio Gear is awesome, they are offering y’all a 10% discount off your entire order!

Reader Discount Code: SGHOLIDAY. This code does not expire and is good towards 10% off your whole Studio Gear purchase!

Feel free to follow Studio Gear on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

**FTC: I was provided this palette to review but all opinions are my own. This is a sponsored post from Brand Backer and Studio Gear for an honest review of the product mentioned and I am gaining no compensation for posting.

Starlooks Starbox November Box

Thanks to the ladies *cough* enablers *cough* over at MUT, I decided to try Starlooks! The thing that pushed me over the edge is that December’s box will be a 15 pan eyeshadow palette!! It’s $15 a month (+ shipping, so about ~$18) and you get a mix of Starlooks products, all FULL SIZE! Also fun, when it’s your birthday month, you get a free box, so I should be getting 2 boxes come December, wahoo!

They also put up a look book that is supposed to give clues of what the makeup will be. This month’s theme was “Return to Monaco” and reminded us that cold weather months didn’t need to mean boring makeup! You have to subscribe by the 10th of each month to receive that months box. I believe the box shipped from somewhere in California so after I got my tracking, it was only a 2 day wait for me šŸ™‚

Now onto the goods!

Image

The packaging is nice and clean. This month we got a 5 pan eyeshadow palette, a cream liner, a liner brush, and a pencil sharpener. I can always use more brushes and have tested this one. It’s soft but gets the angled lines down! Also, don’t require tons of product which is nice šŸ™‚

Image

Love this cream/gel eyeliner!! It’s gorgeous. While it looks like a navy color in pictures/pot, it’s actually more of a turquoise blue once on. It also lasts forever. I swatched a bit on my hand, went to scrub it off and it wouldn’t budge. I ended up going to a baby shower with a bit of blue on me!

Image

And the lovely palette!! Okay, I know it looks SUPER intimidating (I’m looking at you orange/red shade!!), but on, it’s actually really nice. Sadly, the gold doesn’t transfer as well, even with white base/primer, but the other colors are nice. It’s always nice to have a white color. The gray is pretty too. I really like the navy and it is quite fun paired with the red/orange. Just be sure to use a good stiff brush with these bad boys. I used a softer one and the color barely transferred.

Also, shoutout to my Zoya Storm polish making an appearance in this shot! I’ll do another post soon dedicated to this lady, but my oh my does she sparkle!

If you want to try Starlooks and get in on the sure to be kickass 15 pan eyeshadow palette for December, please you my referral link here:Ā Starlooks! If you sign up, I get a free box of goodies šŸ™‚

November Golden Tote!!

Yaaaas, I got my Golden Tote today!! For those of you that don’t know, Golden Tote is a fun surprise clothing bag you can get each month. On the first Monday of each month, the sale starts! They present a collection and you chose from two options: for $49, you pick out 1 item and receive 1-2 surprise pieces OR for $149 you pick 2 and get 4-6! The only downside is if something doesn’t work for you, you have to either send back the whole tote or gift it to a friend. I have found that their customer service has been pretty solid and gives good advice when you ask about sizing.

I, having ZERO self control and desperately needing retail therapy, went for the $149 tote. With shipping, it ended being more like $155, but I got 6 pieces and I am super happy! I ordered the first day of the sale and got my items today. Here is what I received:

Come to meĀ my pretttttty! LOVE this bag. I’ll be using it for farmers markets and making myself feel snazzy.

Navy & whiteĀ Peach Love CreamĀ top – Love this! My iPhone makes the color look black, but trust me, it’s a beautiful navy! Fits great, minus a smidgen tight on the boobies, but thats a daily struggle. One of my favorites from the tote!

Cream, gray, black trimĀ reneecĀ sweater. Super soft but not the most flattering on my body, my mom said it was her least favorite item. Still so comfy though and I’ll be keeping it for myself because I am selfish like that.

Cream and black stripedĀ lumiereĀ sweater. LOVE THIS! It’s thick, comfy, and lovely.

One of my picks! Black button up laceĀ lulumariĀ dress. Really cute, but definitely needs the top few buttons unbuttoned to not give off an Amish vibe. Can’t wait to pair it with my cowboy boots, maybe some tights if it actually gets cold here in Phoenix.

Close up on the lace.

Navy blue lace inClover dress that was revealed as an item anyone who ordered the $149 tote would get. Now it looks like shit on the hanger, massive and unflattering, but once on and with a belt it’s SO much better. I may get it taken in slightly, but I like it! The sleeves are really delicate lace and it will be nice for holiday parties. Ā ALSO, the twirl factor is there, which is majorly important to me.

My other pick!! Finally, I got my hands on this aztec printĀ FateĀ sweater!!! I almost got the October tote but they sold out in my size ASAP so I was so happy to see it again in November’s collection. The sleeves are a bit tight and it does’t do much for my figure, but I am in love with. Pockets, fun angles, what more do I need?

Did any of your order Golden Tote? Did you love what you got? Let me know!! I am hoping that December’s offerings aren’t as great or I may have to spring again šŸ˜›

Dr. Scholl’sĀ® Active SeriesĀ® Review

I received theseĀ Dr. Scholl’sĀ® Active SeriesĀ® from Influenster. Influenster isĀ fun website where you can take surveys, unlock badges relevant to your lifestyle (fitness, beauty, travel, etc), review products and in return, qualify for free products & special boxes! Let me know if you want to skip the waiting line and I’ll send you over an invite, I have 5 left šŸ™‚

Now onto the product:

IMG_2284IMG_2285IMG_2283

These insoles are adorable. While they are showing up orange in the pictures, they are actually pink & match perfectly with my Nikes! They retail for about $25 depending on where you pick them up. If you visit this link, you should be able to get a coupon for $4 off. Ā According the their website, the insoles are supposed to reduce impact shock by 40% as well as help relieve and prevent pain in your knees (which I definitely suffer from) as well as shin splints andĀ plantar fasciitis. I could definitely tell a difference just simply walking in them (ie, I am far too lazy to really go on a run). They run up to a size 10 and you cut down the top of the insole to fit your shoe.

I like that these just slip into the shoe & don’t have the sticky stuff on the bottom. I’ve tried other Dr. Scholl’s inserts and while they stay in place, it’s also a pain in the behind if you accidentally place it in poorly. Overall, I am glad I received these and look forward to putting them to the test when I decide to get off my lazy bum and really work out.

Punk Lust

Punk Lust
I am so happy that punk is in right now. It makes my heart sing. Spikes, black leather, edgy, bring it on. Living in NYC gave me the confidence to embrace my inner darkness a bit more and I am so glad the colder weather is finally hitting Phoenix so I can bust out my leather. Now if I had all the money in the world (not to mention some thinner thighs), these babies would be all mine. Aren’t they all glorious??Ā For some reason the jacket isn’t linking over, but it’s McQueen and it’s so incredibly drool worthy. Please, someone, GIVE ME IT.

Best Bite Lip Set

Quickie review today, the BiteBest of Bite Lip Set‘. I am so happy I pulled the trigger and bought this adorable Bite mini set today from Sephora (using my VIB 20% of course!) It retails for $25 and includes four 0.05oz Bite High Pigment Pencils. A single Bite lip pencil costs $24 at 0.09oz, so you’re getting a great deal and you get to try 4 colors! The tin is about the size of an Altoid box has a full mirror, and I love them! Smooth, creamy, pigmented, and a great price point!

Here’s some quick swatches:

<br />
Cranberry – beautiful blue based red. This is a limited edition color and it’ll be great for the holidays!

<br />
Quince – in person, looks wayyy pinker and not at all like Cranberry, some reason my phone is pulling in more red. Definitely not a dupe, see my hand swatch for more accurate color.

<br />
Madeira – The nude. Meh, this was the one I was least excited for TBH. It looks far better in this person than it does in real life I think. Maybe it’s just this lightening that it looks ok. In artificial lighting, I look sightly sick lol. I’ll probably mix it with others or give it away/trade if someone is dying for it.

<br />
Rhubarb – A prettttty pinky/purple color. Darker and not as red IRL. My second favorite after cranberry.

<br />
Swatch on hand – cranberry, quince, rhubarb, madeira

<br />
Adorable packaging.

All shades very easy to apply and only need to go over the lips like 1x for full coverage. Automatically sharpen and totally portable, I adore them and am happy I picked them up!

I am expecting 2 packages from Sephora later this week (the Kat Von D Spellbinding Set and Sephora Super Stars) which I can’t wait to show you guys! Did you haul anything great with your 20% off?

Bona Clara Skincare Mini Review

I was generously offered a sample-size starter kit from my blogger budĀ Brandy for her new venture, Bona Clara Skincare, a few weeks ago and finally have time to review it! One great thing about this line is it’s age specific. 20 year olds and 50 year olds have different skin concerns andĀ Bona ClaraĀ adjusts accordingly. I for example, had no idea that in our 20’s, we get the most free-radical damage. I also am finally getting on board with having an actual skincare system and not just praying that I don’t get wrinkles.

I got this adorable little sample kit (ps, shout out to whoever writes the addresses for Bona Clara, you have AMAZING handwriting) which included: a gel-based cleanser, an exfoliating scrub, toner, serum, and an anti-aging treatment cream. While my toner arrived almost 1/2 empty, I didn’t really need a ton to experience it working.
Image

After using the kit for about 2 weeks, I can say that I like it! I don’t really notice if it makes the signs of aging disappear as I *luckily* don’t see any yet, but it does make my skin feel fresh and super clean. With the exception of the scrub, you’re supposed to use each product 2x a day. I found I needed a smaller amount than directed, which is why I was able to make the small sizes really last. I really loved the scrub. Instructed to use 2-3 week, it includes ground up pomegranate seeds, it wasn’t too rough but still made my skin feel really smooth.

They prides itself as being one of the safest and most natural skincare lines on the market. See below for their handy chart they included in my starter kit:

Image
Umm, Lanacome, you need to step up your game! I mean come on, animal testing STILL?

Overall, I think Bona Clara is a great, natural line and worth checking out, especially if you’re worried about the effects of aging on your skin and have sensitive skin. They also have some great deals coming up for the holiday season, including the sample kit I received which is such a great way to try out the products for yourself. Check them out here and let me know what you pick out! Also, Brandy is just awesome and I know she’ll answer any questions you may have.
