Trick or Treat with Zoya – PROMO!

Zoya is awesome when it comes to promos, it seems like there is always one going on! Anyway, the latest is Halloween themed and it’s buy anything and get 1 polish free + free shipping!

Image
All you do is click here and log into your Zoya account. If you don’t have an account, go ahead and create one. They hardly ever email me, only with great special or updates to my order. I love how spooky the site is 🙂 Anyway, after you log in, just click on the door (I had to do it twice) and an unique code will generate, giving you the discount!

I picked up Storm (a dupe for Bondi *RIP* My Ex’s Heart) and a color spoon for the grand total of…$0.50! I would have picked up more, but as you can see from my last post, I just bought 5 polishes from them.

Mini Zoya Haul!!

My name is Rachel and I have a nail polish problem In my defense, Zoya had a promo last week that was buy any polish get 1 green free. It started that I was just going to order 2. That turned into 4 polishes, 1 free one, and 1 free mini polish remover all for $30! I love Zoya, they always have great promos and consistently great polish.

L-R: Flynn, Evvie, Hunter, Payton, and Monica

I just got them in the mail today after patiently (not really) waiting for exactly 1 week to get them. YAYAY! I tore through the box like it was Christmas morning (well, 1st night of Hannukah for me). I did the quickest swatch because I couldn’t decide which to play with first. In the coming weeks, I’ll post em all individually.

Image

L-R: Flynn, Evvie, Hunter, Payton, and Monica. All 2 coats.

First impression, LOVE. The formula for Flynn is a bit thick, but that’s ok. It’s also not as orange as it appears in the photo. Evvie is gorgeoussss. Hunter is AMAZE tho I want it to be a tad darker. Payton is also a beaut. The glitter is fierce and she dries smooth. Monica is also purdy and the formula was a bit thin.

Zoya is also running another promo right now that you buy 1 Spirit Trio get 1 free + free shipping! That’s 6 polishes for $22. I almost caved and ordered last night, but I have my hands full with these babies. Must.resist.

In other news, I am not even going to comment on the Bondi scandal, besides the fact that I am just happy I only invested $1 in the company & have received it back. As much as I wanted those gorgeous 3 polishes, who knows if they ever even existed and the wonderful ladies at MUT already found dupes for me 🙂

Onto the baubles!!

1) Up first, Robyn Rhodes – Niut Earrings. Retails for $78, Member Price $62.40. Robyn is a former celebrity assistant and decided to leave the biz to start her own line!

These earrings are nice. While they look a bit blue in the photo, in person much more black. I like the design, but don’t think I’d spend the $$ on them. I will however rock them for a bit before sending this box back 🙂

2) Onto Urban Gem – Hammered Spokes Necklace in silver. Retails for $68, Member Price, $54.40. Urban Gem is a collective of designers from around the world with vintage and modern influences.

At first glance, I thought I’d dislike this necklace. I had gotten something similar before, but it was an awkward length for me. This one however, ROCKS. I love it on and can’t wait to wear it out tonight. While I probably won’t keep it, trying to cut down on expenses, I love it.

3) The final piece, Charles Albert – Alchemi Beach Glass Bangle. Retails for $75, Member Price $60. Albert has been a designer for over 30 years and uses unusual materials to create his gorgeous pieces.
IMG_2188
I really like this bangle. It’s very, very, light and the sea glass is gorgeous. At first I didn’t think it would fit, but then I figured out the clasp and it is quite nice. Again, I won’t be keeping it, but it makes me feel pretty and special for now.

Overall, a great box for RocksBox. I think it’s a great concept. We all know how expensive jewlery can get, especially when you want high quality and I love that I can try out different designers. Don’t forget, if you’d like to sign up for RocksBox, now is your last chance for your first box free, so click here or let me know below if you need an invite to save $10!

The ‘Plenty’ Challenge – Recipe #1

I rented the fabulous cook, Plenty, by Yotam Ottolenghi from my local library.

I’ve been salivating over it for a few months now and jumped at the chance to pick it up. My dad, the die-hard meat eater (sidebar, we once got in a screaming match at a Persian restaurant when I told my parents I was thinking of going vegetarian), was drawn in by the pictures and proposed a challenge: we were going to cook our way through the book!

The first dish we decided to try out is Yotam’s Roasted Parsnip and Sweet Potatoes with a  Caper Vinaigrette.
IMG_2169
A snapshot from the cookbook, can you see why we chose to do it??

It was full of delicious flavors, heads of garlic, onions, carrots (my addition), and herbs. It was also simple to make! Just get all the prep work done first & then in the oven it goes. I think we’re going to make it again for Thanksgiving, but add the tomatoes a bit earlier.
IMG_2172
The tomatoes just looked so purdy I had to take a snapshot!

IMG_2171
The lemon caper vinaigrette! There’s also a hint of maple syrup & dijon mustard in there, tasty and unexpected!

IMG_2173
The finished product, TO DIE FOR!!

I’d give this dish an A++++! I went back for seconds, and thirds, maybe even fourths. We had it with lamb chops, my dad’s recipe, and totally delicious. I can’t wait to try our next recipe! You can find the recipe here.

Lacquerous Gift – Quick Post

I just received a cute little gift from Lacquerous, a new subscription box where you select 3 polishes from your ‘Lust List” including brands like Deborah Lippman, Tom Ford, Chanel, NARS, etc and pay a monthly fee. The twist is you only get to keep the polishes for 3 manicures per bottle & then you send the box back. It’s an interesting concept & the founders swear they go to every means necessary to make sure it’s as clean/sanitized as possible. I haven’t gotten a box yet, still waiting for the perfect polishes to appear, but I am really intrigued and can’t wait to give it a go.

Image

Right now the site is still in beta & you request an invite. I signed up months ago and totally forgot, only getting a few or so ago. I liked them on Facebook & they were having a mini contest which I ended up winning! I just got their gift today and can’t wait to swatch for you guys later!

1) LVX in Alchemy. A super sparkly light gold, can’t wait to try it out, will be great for the holidays. I first tried LVX last month from a Blush Beauty Mystery Bag (another fave sub box of mine) and really enjoyed the polish quality.

Image

2) Deborah Lippman in Lara’s Theme. This bright orange creme is just waiting to be used for a Halloween mani! It’s also my very first Lippman (I’ve been dying to get some) so double yay!!

Image

3) Inoco Nail Polish Applique’s with a great black and gold color scheme. I’ve been wanting to try Incoco, the “original real nail polish strips” as they like to say and am love this design.

Image

Over, big thank you to Lacquerist, I am excited to not only try your service but also get these babies swatched!!

**I did receive these polishes for free, as a winner of their contest, but am under no obligation to review them. I just want to!

Bondi Box – First Box $1!!!

Thanks to Michelle over at Pretty In The East, I snagged the code DONTWANTJULEP (a little snarky IMO, but I kinda love it) to get my first Bondi Box for $1. Yes, ONE WHOLE dollar for 3 Bondi polishes! I can’t wait. The subscription box is usually $19.99 and you get 3 polishes, a beauty product, and 25% a Bondi purchase. There are also options to purchase 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions that save you cash.

These are the 3 colors I chose:

Kiss Me Under The… – Gorgeous green creme. Reminds me of Christmas 🙂

ImageImage

My Ex’s Heart – Not only a siiick name, but a sparkly black!!

ImageImage

On The Rocks – A nice greige, I need a few more neutrals in my collection.

ImageImage

It was hard to pick just 3 and it took major self control to not purchase any of the blues. I am super excited to try Bondi, have heard great things. Plus, if they suck, it only cost me $1!! Did any of you sign up for Bondi? What’s your experience been like?

OPI San Francisco Collection – Keeping Suzi At Bay Swatch

I die. This polish is amazing. I picked it up at Ulta over the weekend when there was a buy 2 get a top/base coat free and am so glad I did. This baby is a great mix between cobalt and navy, no one will mistake this for black.

bottle

I am a fiend for dark polishes, especially of the blue and green variety, but HATE when they show up black once on the nail. Well have no fear, because this bad boy is blue!

Swatches done with 2 coats polish + 1 coat OPI top coat

opi inside

Inside, natural light

opi outside

Outside, no flash.

This polish is just gorgeous, I mean look at is shine in the light! Love it for fall. Wear time is great too. I’ve had this on since Saturday (my family is shocked I haven’t changed colors yet, but she’s just soo pretty) and have had very minimal chipping. The polish dried quickly and was quite glossy on it’s own. I just added the top coat for extra chip protection. I was going to pick up Alcatraz too but alas, they were out. Have no fear, as I am sure I will pick it up eventually. I really do like the OPI sands, I have a few from the Mariah Carey collection and adore how glittery they are.

Rocks Box #2 + FREE FIRST MONTH!!

Thanks to one of my favorite bloggers, Brandy over at Mommysplurge, I discovered the fabulousness that is Rocks Box! It’s like Netflix for jewelry. There’s 3 membership plans, starting at $19, but go down in price the longer you commit (full membership fee paid upfront!). Basically, you fill out a style survey that covers all the bases from not only types of baubles you like, but also gaudiness level *mine is up there*, metal preferences, to what you NEVER want to receive. Then you get this adorable box in the mail with 3 pieces that you get to rock for up to two months! You have the option to purchase the items at a lower price and they feature a lot of great artists. Whenever you’re ready to change up your gems, send them pack in the pre-paid envelope and you’ll receive new pieces super quick.

1) Made – Igonyegonye Earrings, Retail – $45, Member Price, $36

earrings

Holy crap, I love these to bits, and not just for the mouthful of a name. Not only are the gorgeous/go with everything/wonderful/lightweight etc, but also support a great cause. The company’s main objective is to create sustainable jobs and empower women in Kenya which is A+ in my book! I’ve been back in forth in keeping these as $36 for a pair of hoops is a lot, but I do love giving back aspect so I may just do it.

2) Loren Hope – Elva Tassel Necklace, Retail – $78, Member Price – $62.40

necklace

Okay, I know I said was into gaudy, but this is a little too…something for me. I wanted to like it, I really did, and the stylist did listen when I said I needed long necklaces, but I just don’t think the faux-diamand tassle look is for me. I also appreciate that these are handcrafted in good ole US of A though and look forward to giving feedback and getting better pieces.

3) Gamine – Zara Rings, Retail – $56, Member Price – $44.80

zara rings

When I first took these out, I thought there was no way in hell they’d fit, but they did! After a bit of googling, saw a few other gals received these rings this month as well. I also like them more than I thought I would. They are simple and unassuming, but I don’t think I’d ever pay retail for these. They also looked far better on my model-skinny sister than on me.

While I may not love each piece I got this month, I still have love for this sub because you get to have new jewelry as often as you’d like! It’s a great way to find new designers and change up your wardrobe without going broke. Now for the FREE part!! To get your first month free visit the following link – http://curebit.com/x/AbM1Tu and use the code – FRIENDSROCK. That’s how I signed up (via Brandy, hey girl!) 🙂

**Disclaimer, the Rocksbox link is a referral where I’d get some credit to keep the pieces if you decide to join!

Smashbox Wondervision Set – Flash

Makeup brands everywhere are gearing up for the holidays already and have been releasing kits for the last month or so. I was at ULTA over the weekend (sidebar, NYC, you need to get some ULTAs, I missed the shit out of them when I was there), and saw this beauty up for grabs. For $32, you receive an eyeshadow palette with 6 colors (3 mattes and 3 glitters), a full-size Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black, and a full-size Limitless Eyeliner in Onxy. I had a hard time choosing between Flash (the beautiful purples you see here) or Sparks (a gorgeous nude/gold palette). The saleswomen convinced me to go with Flash as I already own so many nude palettes and I’m glad she did.

The cute packaging-

Full Exposure Mascara –

wand

A solid mascara, nothing revolutionary though. Does make my lashes have a bit of oomph, definitely more volumizing than lengthening and NOT I repeat NOT waterproof. Found that out the hard way. Overall, while I may not buy it, not a bad freebie!

Limitless Eyeliner –

eyeliner

Again, a nice black eyeliner. While it doesn’t come up great in my lovely iPhone 4 photo, it is definitely jet black and lasts! I had to scrub a bit to get this line off my hand.

The Palette closed & opened –

closedopen

Is it not beautiful or what? The plum is to die for and I love the sparkles to give the smoky eye some OOMPH.

Swatches – No primer, no flash, straight up bathroom lighting y’all. The colors can be used both wet and dry, and the plum lends itself well working as a liner.

swatch

Colors (top to bottom) – Plum, Pink Shell, Ballet Pink, Slate, Purple Shimmer, Taupe

Plum is a great, well, plum color! It’s a deep matte purple, goes on well, and is layer-able. Great for a smoky eye.

Pink Shell is a very light pink, while hard to see on my white ass, I’m sure it’ll look great on darker skin ladies (or gents!). Also nice as a highlighter.

Ballet Pink, another great name, really does remind me of ballet shoes. Does go on a bit chalky, but pretty.

Slate is a great deep grey glitter. Not a ton of fallout and great for a pop of glitter in the smoky eye.

Purple Shimmer, while not quite purple, gorgeous nonetheless. Did find the fallout to be more noticeable here, but it’s just so pretty. Comes out more pink of my skintone.

Taupe is a nice light brown glitter. Would have liked either another matte or purple shade instead of this, but it does look purdy.

Overall, I’d give this holiday set an 7.5/10. I wish some of the glitters didn’t fallout as much and definitely wish the mascara was waterproof but it’s an excellent value and would make a great gift for someone!
